Isn't Loving Jesus Enough?

Isn’t loving Jesus good enough? Why even go to church?Church

You hear it all the time.  I don’t really need to go to churchmy relationship with God is personal. I’ve had it with organized religion… I can worship Jesus my own way. An organized church is a man-made invention, not God’s idea.

Have you ever thought these things? Can you give us a chance to respond?

First, we get it. The church is, and has been, far from perfect. We live in a world where you have many options and it’s easy to distrust organized religion and therefore feel that loving Jesus means not having to enter the doors of a church. We understand but we believe this is a mistake.

Please realize that the church was not a human invention. We see that the New Testament clearly shows that the assembling of people to worship publicly was God’s idea. In fact, most of the New Testament is not only about Jesus and His teachings teachings but also a recording of the church’s work in this post-Jesus era. You can’t have the church without Jesus and you can’t have Jesus without the church.

Second, maybe look at churches this way – the things that bother you about the church should amaze you. Yes, the church is made up of imperfect people, but what if we start realizing that Jesus uses and started the church with imperfect people. What if we looked at the church as a great example of God’s wonderful grace – using imperfect people to make an eternal difference in people’s lives? THAT is pretty amazing. Looking at it that way – the church, then, gives the world a front row seat to seeing God’s grace in action.

Finally, maybe you are thinking that you can worship how you want, when you want, and even where you want. Who needs to be in a building to worship God? This, to some aspect, is true. The Bible teaches that God is everywhere at all times and knows all things. The Bible teaches that we are saved by God alone, through Scripture alone, by God’s grace alone. That being the case, though, the Bible records that very few people came to know Jesus because He appeared to them supernaturally. The vast majority of God’s work comes through the church and the congregation. God loves to work through the church and people. This is why God wants us to gather together, to encourage one another, and learn from each other. The only one who would prefer we be alone is our enemy, Satan.

If you are looking for a church we’d be honored if you’d check us out so we can show you Jesus and His amazing grace.

Because of Jesus YOU have Hope!
